The Business Innovation Committee is responsible for managing the organization’s research and development (R&D) efforts as well as its technological needs, all geared toward the development and growth of Panama’s maritime sector. The committee’s mandate includes collecting and presenting data and other information that help qualify and quantify regional opportunities and needs.

2022 Projects
Industry Innovation Breakfast – Innovative Projects in Panama’s Maritime Industry
On November 17, 2022, the Business Innovation Committee — coordinated by René Gómez in collaboration with Petroport and Mr. Raúl Córdoba — hosted an industry breakfast where several innovative projects aimed at improving services for the maritime sector were presented, including:
- Document delivery to vessels via drones
- Incident logging in the bunkering industry (data/statistics)
- Panama Maritime Chamber job board platform
2021 Projects
Visit to the Panama Canal Maritime Simulation, Research & Development Center
On March 10, 2021, members of the Business Innovation Committee, coordinated by René Gómez, visited the Simulation, Research, and Maritime Development Center (SiDMAR) of the Panama Canal Authority. During the tour led by highly qualified personnel, attendees learned about the center’s facilities and operations,
and discussed future collaboration opportunities to strengthen training for university students in operational roles such as pilots, captains, and deck personnel — professions critical to the industry.
